More goods on Norwegian roads
Norwegian-registered lorries carried more than 37 million tonnes of gravel, sand, soil etc on Norwegian roads in the third quarter of 2004. This is an increase of ten per cent from the corresponding period in 2003. The first two quarters of 2004 had a strong growth in the transport of these commodities as well.
The transport of bulk products like gravel, sand and soil accounted for 55 per cent of the total amount of goods transported in the third quarter. The corresponding share for transport performance was 16.2 per cent. This share is considerably lower due to bulk products being transported a shorter distance.
More goods transported
Both the amount of goods transported and the transport performance was higher in the third quarter of 2004 than in the same quarter of 2003. The amount of goods transported increased by 15.2 per cent while the transport performance increased by 12.5 per cent. The Norwegian lorries' transport of goods abroad increased by 5.1 per cent, while the transport performance abroad decreased by 8.0 per cent.

Public haulage constituted 33.3 million tonnes of goods in the third quarter. This accounted for 49.2 per cent of the freight moved by road, a decrease from 57.9 per cent in the third quarter of 2003.
Public haulage accounted for 74.9 per cent of the transport performance, which is 2.3 percentage points less than in the same period of 2003.

This is more than Norwegian, Swedish and Danish lorries transported in their own countries in the same period. The corresponding growth for Sweden was three per cent, while Denmark and Finland had a decrease in this period.
