Big fall in international transport
During this year’s first quarter, Norwegian lorries transported 57.7 million tonnes of goods on national and international journeys. This is 20 per cent less than in the corresponding period last year.
A total of 393.8 million kilometres were covered domestically; 2.6 per cent less than in the same period last year. However, each tonne of goods was transported longer. On average, each tonne was transported 65 kilometres, which is 10.5 kilometres more than in the first quarter of 2008. The domestic transport performance was 3.7 billion tonne kilometres; down 5.1 per cent from the first quarter of 2008.
The transport length on international tours was reduced. The average length of carriage per tonne by Norwegian lorries abroad was 434 kilometres in the first quarter of 2009. This is 133.5 kilometres shorter than in the first quarter of 2008. A total of 39 million kilometres were covered on international journeys during the first quarter this year, 27.5 per cent less than in the first quarter last year. The international transport performance was down 35.1 per cent.
