Less transport on own account
The decline in domestic road goods transport continued in 3r d quarter 2009 compared to 3r d quarter 2008. Most of the decline was related to lorries in transport on own account. However, lorries in transport for hire or reward had a small increase in the transport performances compared to 3r d quarter 2008.
Norwegian lorries in transport on own account drove 46 million vehicle-kilometres shorter in 3r d quarter 2009 compared to the same quarter in 2008, a decrease of 25 per cent. The amount of goods transported decreased by 5.8 million tonnes or almost 19 per cent. The transport performance constituted 853 million tonne-kilometres, a decrease of almost 43 per cent.
Lorries in transport for hire or reward had only a small decrease in the tonnes transported compared to 3r d quarter 2008. On the other hand, the transport performance increased by 5 per cent measured in tonne-kilometres and by 1 per cent in kilometres driven.
Decrease in total
The total domestic transport performance by Norwegian lorries during 3r d quarter 2009 amounted to 3.9 billion tonne-kilometres and 64 million tonnes transported. This is a decrease of 11 per cent.
In international transport, 1.4 million tonnes were transported and the transport performance constituted 869 million tonne-kilometres, a decrease of 17.6 and 16.6 per cent respectively.
