Norwegian lorries driving longer
Norwegian lorries transported less tonnes of goods in the 3rd quarter of 2011 than in the same quarter the previous year. At the same time, the average length of carriage per tonne has increased and the transport performance was, therefore, slightly up.
The transport performance increased by 1.5 per cent in the national transport and by 5.6 per cent in the international transport compared with the third quarter of 2010. The average transport length per tonne increase for both national and international trips, and was 67 and 557 km respectively. The share of kilometres driven with the lorry unloaded was a low 24 per cent within Norway and 20.6 per cent on international trips.
A total of 63.4 million tonnes of goods were transported domestically and 1.3 million tonnes abroad by Norwegian lorries during the second quarter of 2011. This is 11 and 10 per cent less, respectively, than in the third quarter of 2010.
