Norwegian lorries driving further
In the 2nd quarter of 2012 Norwegian lorries transported only 0.5 per cent more goods domestically and abroad compared with the same quarter last year. However, the average transport distance per tonne increased and led to a 10 per cent growth in the transport performances during the same period.
Norwegian lorries transported a total 63.7 million tonnes of goods in the 2nd quarter of 2012 in Norway and in connection with imports and exports, while the corresponding transport performances amounted to 5.1 billion tonne kilometres. The significantly higher increase in transport performances than in the amount of goods transported was due to national trips being longer. The average transport distance per tonne domestic increased from 61.4 kilometres in the 2nd quarter of 2011 to 68.6 kilometres in the 2nd quarter of 2012. For international shipments, the picture was inverted. The average transport distance per tonne in the international transport went down compared to 2nd quarter of 2011.
