Increase in domestic transport
The transport performance of Norwegian lorries in national transport increased by 4.3 per cent in the 3rd quarter of 2013, while the tonnage carried went up by 9. 4 per cent compared with the 3rd quarter of 2012. In the first three quarters of the year, the transport performance rose by 7.0 per cent, while the tonnage carried has increased by 7.1 per cent compared with the same period last year.

In the 3rd quarter of 2013, the total national transport performance of Norwegian-registered vehicles with a carrying capacity of 3.5 tonnes or more was in excess of 4.4 billion tonne-kilometres, while 66.6 million tonnes of goods were transported. Norwegian lorries in the international transport saw an increase of 3.3 per cent in the tonnage carried and a 2.2 per cent decrease in the transport performance.
Transport for hire or reward dominates
The total domestic transport performance was 4.4 billion tonne-kilometres in the 3rd quarter of 2013, with transport for hire or reward accounting for 76.7 per cent. The transport for hire or reward transported 64 per cent of all tonnage carried, and accounted for 64.1 per cent of total vehicle-kilometres. The rate of empty kilometres was 25.1 per cent for lorries for hire or reward and 26.1 per cent for lorries for own account.
138 million kilometres of empty driving
In the 3rd quarter of 2013, lorries drove a total of 533 million kilometres with and without a load to, from and within Norway. This is 7.1 per cent more than in the 3rd quarter of 2012. A total of 138 billion kilometres were driven without a load, which corresponds to an empty driving rate of 25.9 per cent. This was a slight decrease compared with the 3rd quarter of 2012, when the share of kilometres driven without a load was 26.7 per cent.
