Fewer marine casualties in 2000
10 vessels were totally lost and 9 persons were lost at sea due to marine casualties in 2000. This is a reduction of 4 vessels compared with 1999.
95 vessels were partially lost in 2000 against 124 vessels in 1999. Measured in gross tons, partially lost vessels increased their gross tonnage by 20.4 per cent from 1999 to 783 932 gross tons in 2000. 10 vessels were totally lost in 2000 against 14 vessels in 1999. Measured in gross tons, totally lost vessels increased their gross tonnage by 44.7 per cent from 1999 to 9 666 gross tons in 2000.
