A good year for hotels and restaurants
The hotel and restaurant industry had a turnover of more than NOK 52 billion in 2007, an increase of 10.9 per cent from 2006.
In the same period employment grew by 6.5 per cent, and the industry employed approximately 89 000 people in 2007. In percentage terms, the largest employment growth was in the canteen and catering business with a growth of 13.9 per cent.
Another good year for hotels
Enterprises in the hotel industry had a turnover of NOK 19.1 billion in 2007. The turnover expanded with about NOK 2 billion, a growth of 12.2 per cent. At the same time we can see that the growth in employment was more moderate, with an increase of 2.4 per cent. Numbers from the accommodations statistics show that hotels had 4 per cent more guest-nights in 2007 than in 2006.
50 000 employees in restaurants
Enterprises in the restaurant industry employed about 50 000 people according to preliminary figures for 2007, a growth of 7.8 per cent from the year before. The turnover in restaurants grew by 10.9 per cent, and total turnover in 2007 was close to NOK 24 billion. This makes them the largest subgroup in the hotel and restaurant industry with a 56.2 per cent share of the employment and 45.9 per cent share of the turnover in the industry.
Preliminary figuresThe preliminary figures for number of enterprises, turnover and employment are published while data are still being revised and may therefore deviate somewhat from final results published at a later date. While preliminary figures are published on the enterprise level only, final results are published on both the enterprise level and the local kind-of-activity unit level. |
