18 killed in March

According to the first overview for March, 18 persons were killed and 750 persons were injured in road traffic accidents.

Of the fatalities last month, there were eleven drivers of automobile, five passengers of automobile, one pedestrian and one person sledging. The first overview for March 2000 showed 21 killed persons, while 809 were injured.

The average number of persons killed and injured for March in the five-year period 1996-2000 was 18 and 695, respectively.

One of the victims in road traffic accidents was a child under 6 years of age, seven were between 15 and 24, nine were in the age group 25-64 and one person was over 64 years of age.

Final figures show that 341 persons have lost their lives and 11 662 were injured in 2000.

The accident statistics for 2000, which are used for comparative purposes, are preliminary figures published in the Weekly Bulletin of Statistics, Road Traffic Accidents Involving Personal Injury, March 2000. The figures for 2000 presented in tables 1-5 are final.
