25 killed in April

According to the first overview for April 25 persons were killed and 634 persons were injured. Of the fatalities last month eight were drivers of automobile, 13 passengers of automobile, one person on motorcycle and three pedestrians. The first overview for April 2000 showed 20 killed persons, while 640 were injured.

The average number of persons killed and injured in April in the five-year period 1996-2000 was 16 and 638, respectively.

Nine of the victims in road traffic accidents were between 15 and 24, 10 were in the age group 25-64 and six persons were over 64 years of age.

According to preliminary figures 88 persons have lost their lives and 2 944 were injured in road traffic accidents so far this year. The corresponding preliminary figures for the same period last year were 90 killed and 3 225 injured.

The accident statistics for 2000, which are used for comparative purposes, are preliminary figures published in the Weekly Bulletin of Statistics, Road Traffic Accidents Involving Personal Injury, April 2000. The figures for 2000 presented in tables 1-5 are final.
