32 fatalities and 1 019 injured in July
32 persons were killed and 1 019 persons injured in traffic accidents in July 2001, according to the first overview. Of the fatalities last month there were 13 drivers of automobile, four passengers, nine persons on motorcycle, two persons on cycle and four pedestrians.
The statistics cover only accidents reported to the police. Consequently, minor accidents and injuries in particular are underrepresented in the injury statistics.
The first overview for July last year showed 38 persons killed, while 1 017 were injured. The average figures for July 1996-2000 show 33 and 991, respectively.
Less people killed this summer
Total 81 persons were killed in the summer months May, June and July. The corresponding figures for these months in 1999 and 2000 were 100 and 97, respectively.
Of the 32 fatalities last month, 12 persons were between 15 and 24 year of age, 18 were in the age group 25-64 and two persons were older than 64.
According to preliminary figures 171 persons were killed and 6 003 were injured so far this year. The corresponding preliminary figures for the same period last year were 187 and 6 261.
85 of the victims in road traffic accidents this year were drivers of automobile. 25 of these were under 25 year of age, 49 were in the age group 25-64 and 11 were older than 64.
20 motorcyclists lost their lives and 124 were injured so far this year. The corresponding preliminary figures for the same period last year were 27 and 100.
The accident statistics for 2000, which are used for comparative purposes, are preliminary figures. The figures for 2000 presented in the tables 1-5 are final.
