25 persons killed and 985 injured in July

According to preliminary figures a total of 668 road traffic accidents were reported to Norwegian police in July. 25 persons lost their lives and 985 were injured in these accidents. This is the lowest number of persons killed in July traffic since 1995.

Comparative figures for July last year show that 32 persons were killed and 1 019 injured on Norwegian roads, while the average figures for the period 1993-2002 are 30 fatalities and 969 injuries in July.

Of the 25 people killed in road traffic accidents last month, 8 were drivers of automobiles, six were passengers of automobiles, six were drivers of motorcycles, one was a mopedallist, one was a cyclist and three were pedestrians.

173 killed in the first seven months

In the first seven months of 2002 173 persons have lost their lives on Norwegian roads, while the corresponding figure for last year was 171 persons killed.

Increase in injuries

A total of 6 880 persons have been injured on Norwegian roads so far this year. Figures for the first seven months of last year show 6 003 injuries, while the corresponding average for the period 1993-2002 is 6 187 injuries.

Road traffic accidents in Nordic countries

During the first six months of 2002, 267 persons were killed in road traffic accidents in Sweden, 214 in Denmark and 183 persons in Finland. The comparative figure for Norway was 148 persons killed. Corresponding figures for the first six months of 2001 were 238 persons killed in Swedish traffic, 187 in Danish traffic, 199 in Finish traffic and 139 in Norwegian traffic.

The accident statistics for 2001 that is used for comparative purposes are preliminary figures. Figures for 2001 presented in the tables 1-8 are final.
