Persons seriously injured. January-October 2001-2010

Persons killed. January-October 2001-2010

The average for October over the last 10 years is 75 severely injured and 20 fatalities. In October 2009, 50 persons were severely injured and 11 persons were killed. The fatality figures were later adjusted to 55 and 10 respectively.

Of the fatalities last month, eleven were car drivers, five were car passengers, two were motorcyclists, one was a cyclist, and one was a pedestrian.

So far this year 187 people have been killed in road traffic accidents. The corresponding figure for 2009 was 177, but the fatality figure was later adjusted to 176. According to preliminary figures, 582 people have been severely injured in road traffic accidents so far this year, compared to 630 last year. Last year’s fatality figure was later adjusted to 637.

Police figures

The statistics are based on accidents reported to the police. Less severe accidents and injuries are often not reported to the police, and may therefore be underrepresented in the figures. The total number of injuries includes casualties where the degree of injury has not been specified. Around 25 per cent of the casualties reported so far this year belonged to this category. Some people registered in this category may be uninjured, and figures are subject to change.
