16 killed and 65 severely injured in July
In July 2011, 65 persons were severely injured in road traffic accidents, while 16 persons were killed, according to preliminary figures.
The average for July over the last 10 years is 101 severely injured and 25 fatalities. In July 2010, 79 persons were severely injured and 27 persons were killed. The fatality figure was later adjusted to 89 severely injured and 26 fatalities.
Of the fatalities last month, eight were car drivers, five were car passengers, two were motorcyclists and one was a moped driver.
Police figuresThe statistics are based on accidents reported to the police. Less severe accidents and injuries are often not reported to the police, and may therefore be underrepresented in the figures. The total number of injuries includes casualties where the degree of injury has not been specified. Around 23 per cent of the casualties reported so far this year belonged to this category. Some people registered in this category may be uninjured, and figures are subject to change. |
