Kindergarten fees went up

The kindergarten fees increased by 3.0 per cent from August 2000 to January 2001. The public kindergarten fees increased more than the private ones. The year-to-year growth in January was 4.8 per cent.

Families with children in public kindergartens experienced a stronger price growth than families with children in private kindergartens. The public fees went up 3.2 per cent while the private ones increased by 1.8 per cent during the last six months.

Highest growth in the east

The eastern region of Norway was the main contributor to the price growth during the last six months, the fees increased by 3.1 per cent. In the region of Agder/Rogaland the fees rose substantially less, by only 0.5 per cent. The remaining regions experienced price increases from 2.4 to 2.6 per cent.

From January 2000 to January 2001 the kindergarten fees rose by 4.8 per cent. Families living in the eastern region of Norway have experienced the strongest growth. The public fees have increased by 5.0 per cent while the private fees went up 3.7 per cent during the last year.
