Decrease in kindergarten fees

The public kindergarten fees fell by 1.8 per cent from January to August 2001. The public and private fees decreased altogether by 1.1 per cent. The year-to-year growth in August was 1.9 per cent.

The fall in the public kindergarten fees is due to increased kindergarten subsidy implemented on the 1st of July 2001. Largest decrease in the fees occurred in Trøndelag and Western Norway, with 3.9 and 3.7 per cent respectively. In Oslo and the Akershus area the fees fell only slightly by 0.3 per cent.

From August 2000 to August 2001 the public and private fees went up by 1.9 per cent, which is considerable lower than the year-to-year change in August last year. The Eastern region experienced the strongest growth while Western Norway and Trøndelag have decreased their fees. The private fees increased by 3.8 per cent and the public ones have risen by 1.3 per cent.

The private kindergarten fees went up 2.0 per cent from January to August 2001 and dampened the decline in the kindergarten fees.
