Reduced public kindergarten fees
The kindergarten fees fell by 1.9 per cent from January 2002 to August 2002 due to increased kindergarten subsidy implemented on the 1st of August 2002. The fees have fallen by 3.8 per cent on a year-to-year basis.
The public kindergarten fees have experienced a decline of 2.4 per cent while the private ones rose by 0.4 per cent from January 2002 to August 2002. The public and private kindergarten fees have on average declined by 1.9 per cent. The decrease in the public kindergarten fees is mainly due to increased kindergarten subsidy implemented on the 1st of August 2002.
The largest decrease in the public kindergarten fees occurred in the region of Oslo and Akershus and in Northern Norway by 6.3 and 2.9 per cent respectively. In Hedmark and Oppland the fees rose by 1.2 per cent, while Agder and Rogaland had a slight increase of 0.1 per cent.
Year-to-year change: 3.8 per cent lower fees
The kindergarten fees have altogether been reduced by 3.8 per cent from August 2001 to August 2002. The public fees went down 4.6 per cent from August 2001 to August 2002, compared with the private ones that all together had no change. The public fees experienced the strongest decline in Oslo and Akershus, 6.0 per cent, whereas fees in South-Eastern Norway had a decrease of 5.2 per cent. Trøndelag was the only region registered with a rise in kindergarten fees.
