Small changes in kindergarten fees

Norwegian kindergarten fees rose by 0.2 per cent from January to August 2010. A slight rise in public kindergarten fees contributed most to the increase.

Household payments in public kindergartens showed a slight increase of 0.3 per cent from January to August 2010. Fees in private kindergartens went up 0.1 per cent. In comparison, private kindergarten fees fell by 0.1 per cent from August 2009 to January 2010. Of all children with day care places 54 per cent attend a publicly provided kindergarten .

The region of Agder/Rogaland had the largest rise in public kindergarten fees with 0.9 per cent. Oslo and Akershus was registered with a rise of 0.3 per cent, while the remaining regions were all registered with a 0.2 per cent increase in kindergarten fees. Overall, the household payments for public kindergartens rose by 0.4 per cent from August 2009 to August 2010. The municipalities has adjusted their kindergarten fees to a maximum of NOK 2 330 per month, thus the changes are mainly caused by new rates for additional food payments, and payments for extra curricular activities.

The maximum fee for a full-time place in a kindergarten is NOK 2 330 per month. The ceiling remains unchanged for 2010.
