Moderate increase in kindergarten fees
Kindergarten fees in Norway rose by 0.3 per cent from January 2012 to August 2012 due to a rise in the private kindergarten fees.
Household payments to public kindergartens showed no change in August 2012 since the last survey in January, while fees in private kindergartens went up 0.6 per cent. Of all children with day care places, 53 per cent attend a publicly-provided kindergarten .
The regions of Hedemark/Oppland and Trøndelag showed an increase in public kindergarten fees of 0.3 per cent, while both Northern Norway and Western Norway showed a rise of 0.2 per cent. The change is due to increased placement fees together with increased rates for additional food payments and payments for extra curricular activities.
Payment fees for public kindergartens went up 0.1 per cent in Oslo and Akershus, while there was no change in the public kindergarten fees for the average municipality in South Eastern Norway from January to August this year. During the same period, prices in the region Agder/Rogaland showed a 0.5 per cent decline. The municipalities have adjusted their kindergarten fees to a maximum of NOK 2 330 per month.
Overall, the household payments to public kindergartens rose by 0.8 per cent from August 2011 to August 2012.
Maximum feeThe maximum fee for a full-time place in a kindergarten is set by the Norwegian Parliament to an annual fee of NOK 25 630; NOK 2 330 per month. The ceiling remains unchanged at the same nominal level as in 2011. |
