Nine per cent of employees are men

In 2015, 9 per cent of all employees in kindergartens were men. The proportion of male employees has increased in the last 10 years.

From 2005 until 2015, the proportion of male employees in primary functions rose from seven to nine per cent. There were 3 400 male assistants in 2015, which was 11 per cent of all assistants in kindergartens. Nine per cent of all educational leaders and eight per cent of all leaders in kindergartens were male.

More employees have approved pre-school teacher education

92 per cent of all directors and educational leaders had approved pre-school teacher education in 2015; an increase of 2 percentage points from the previous year.

The proportion of children in kindergarten increased slightly

In total, 283 600 children attended kindergarten at the end of 2015; a decrease of 2 800 children from 2014. The proportion of children aged 1-5 who attended kindergarten in 2015 was 90 per cent, which is just a slight increase compared with 2014. About 81 per cent of children aged 1-2 and 97 per cent of children aged 3-5 attended kindergarten in 2015.

In 2015, there were 43 400 children from linguistic and cultural minorities in kindergarten; an increase of five per cent from 2014.
