Exchange rate and market price effects increased net assets abroad

Norwegian foreign net assets increased between the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter of 2015 by NOK 435 billion. The increase in net assets in the 4th quarter followed three quarters of stable figures in 2015.

In total, Norwegian assets abroad amounted to NOK 12 986 billion at the end of the 4th quarter of 2015. Foreign liabilities in the same period amounted to NOK 6 746 billion. This gives a net assets balance of NOK 6 239 billion. Changes in the positions of assets and liabilities are split into transactions and other changes. The transactions are published in the balance of payments

Net other changes amounted to NOK 374 billion in the 4th quarter. Exchange rate changes and positive market price effects during the period contributed to an increase in both assets and liabilities.This is particularly true for the assets side, where other changes lead to an increase in assets of NOK 477 billion in the period. 

Large positions in portfolio assets

At the end of the 4th quarter of 2015, the Norwegian assets of portfolio investment amounted to NOK 9 062 billion, about 70 per cent of the total assets. This was an increase of NOK 466 billion from the 3rd quarter of 2015.
