Decreasing value of ICT imports
External trade in ICT goods increased by 8.7 per cent to NOK 15.4 billion from 2006 to 2007 Imports fell by 0.3 per cent in this period, whereas the trade deficit came to NOK 24.5 billion. Computers and related equipment dominated on the import side.
Exports and imports of ICT goods amounted to NOK 15.4 and NOK 39.8 billion respectively in 2007. From 2006 to 2007, total exports (all commodities excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, natural gas and condensates) increased by 11 per cent and total imports (all commodities excluding ships and oil platforms) by 13.7 per cent. In 2007, ICT goods amounted to 4.6 per cent of total exports and 8.6 per cent of total imports. ICT goods’ share of total exports and imports fell by 0.8 and 1.8 percentage points respectively from 2002 to 2007.
From 2002 to 2007, exports and imports of ICT goods increased by 42 and 43 per cent respectively. This is an increase in exports of NOK 4.5 billion and an increase in imports of NOK 12 billion. However, the growth in external trade in ICT goods has been lower than the growth in total external trade. From 2002 to 2007, total exports increased by 68 per cent and total imports by 71 per cent.
Computers dominate imports
The commodity group “computers and related equipment” (see ”About the statistics” for additional information) is the largest import group. Imports of computers amounted to almost NOK 13.4 billion in 2007. However, this was 13 per cent lower than in the previous year. At the same time, imports of telecommunication equipment rose by 11 per cent to NOK 9.2 billion.
Oslo and Akershus no longer on top
When ICT goods are shipped, the county of origin is registered for exports and the customhouse for imports. Based on these register data, exports and imports of ICT goods are distributed by region. With exports of almost NOK 4.7 billion in 2007, the exports from Østfold, Buskerud, Vestfold and Telemark counties together exceeded the exports from Oslo and Akershus. The increase mainly came from a rise in exports of telecommunication equipment, which rose by 40 per cent to NOK 3.1 billion.
The statistics comprise the product groups audio and video equipment, computers and related equipment, electronic components, telecommunication equipment and other ICT goods. The definitions are created by the OECD and differ slightly from the definitions used in these statistics previously. As a result, the figures published in this article may differ somewhat from the figures published in earlier years. Preliminary figures from the statistics on external trade in goods form the basis for this article. All figures are in current prices. See About statistics for more information . |
