Increased portfolio investment abroad
Norway’s portfolio investment abroad was NOK 4 996 billion by the end of 2012. This is equal to an increase of 12 per cent from the end of 2011.

The general government sector, dominated by the Government Pension Fund - Global, had an investment of NOK 3 812 billion in foreign securities by the end of 2012. This is equal to 76 per cent of Norway’s total portfolio investment abroad.
The stock of Norway’s total foreign debt securities was NOK 2 199 billion, while the equities amounted to NOK 2 797 billion.
Norway had its largest portfolio investment in the USA, with NOK 1 224 billion by the end of 2012, followed by investment in the UK and Germany with NOK 575 and NOK 397 billion respectively.
