NOK 89 billion worth of exports
Enterprises operating in ocean transport posted NOK 89 billion worth of exports in 2007. Imports totalled NOK 49 billion. Thus, ocean transport’s contribution to the balance of services for Norway amounted to NOK 40 billion.
In 2006, total exports were NOK 88 billion, while total imports were NOK 47 billion. From 2006 to 2007, both exports and imports went up by 4 per cent.
Water transport of goods still dominates
The dominant type of service exported is still water transport of goods with NOK 54.8 billion in 2007. This is NOK 2.5 billion less than in 2006 but the service type still makes up more than 60 per cent of total exports. The share of total exports was 61 per cent in 2007 and 67 per cent in 2006.
Increase in imports of services related to ocean transport
Services related to ocean transport represented NOK 17 billion worth of imports in 2007. This is NOK 3 billion less than in 2006. This service type still represents the highest level of imports, with 35 per cent of all imports of services in 2007. Chartering of vessels with crew is the second largest service type, with imports of NOK 15 billion in 2007; 32 per cent of total imports.
