Highest electoral turnout in Østre constituency

The electoral turnout at the Sameting election was 69.3 per cent, which is about 7 per cent lower than in the Storting election this year. The highest electoral turnout was in Østre constituency with 77.9 per cent. The second highest was Àvojovàri constituency with 74.9 per cent. The lowest electoral turnout was at Sør-Noreg constituency with 54.3 per cent, which is a decrease of 12.5 percentage points. The difference between highest and lowest electoral turnout in the seven different constituencies was 23.6 percentage points.

40 per cent of the votes were cast in advance

Forty per cent of the votes were cast in advance. This is an increase of 15 percentage points compared with the election four years ago. Most votes cast in advance were in the two southern most constituencies with 66 and 71 per cent respectively.

The Labour Party is still the largest party

The Labour Party is still the largest party, but the decline for the second largest party Norske Samers Riksforbund (NSR) continues both in support and mandates. The party Àrja received 10 per cent of all votes and 20 per cent of the votes in Àvjovàri constituency. The Labour Party got 14 mandates and NSR 11. In total, these two parties received 25 mandates of 39 possible or 64 per cent of all representatives in Sametinget.

Still high female representation

A total of 19 women were elected at the Sametinget election, which constitutes 49 per cent of the members of parliament. The Norwegian Sami National Association (NSR) has a female representation of 55 per cent; 6 out of 11 are women. For the Labour Party, the female representation is 50 per cent.

Àvjovàri constituency with most votes per members

If we divide the amount of votes by the number of members in the Sameting, an average of 242 votes were given per member. Most votes per members were given in Àvjovàri with 294, followed by the Østre constituency with 281. Vesthavet and Sørsamisk constituencies had fewest votes per member with 183 votes.

Still increasing numbers entitled to vote

The number of persons entitled to vote in this year’s Sameting election amounted to 13 890. This is 1 350 more compared to the 2005 election. The largest constituency is Àvjorvarì with 3 560 persons entitled to vote.
