The value index increased by 2.3 per cent

The value index of retail sale excluding vehicles and petrol increased by 2.3 per cent from July 2000 to July 2001. In the first seven months 2001 the value index rose by 2.0 per cent compared to the same period 2000.

The value index of pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased by 10.0 per cent in July this year compared with July last year. Retail sale in non-specialized stores, which mainly includes grocery stores, rose by 3.5 per in the same period. The value index of retail sale of new goods in specialized stores increased by 1.8 per cent. This sector includes shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials. Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores rose by 0.4 per cent in July 2001 compared with July 2000.

Volume index missing for July

From July 1st this year the value added tax for food and non-alcoholic beverages was changed from 24 to 12 per cent. The data received from the respondents so far do not give the detailed information needed for the calculation of the volume index for July.
