Retail sales down 0,2 per cent

The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales decreased 0.2 per cent in September 2001 compared with August 2001. The volume index not adjusted decreased 1.7 per cent in September 2001 compared with September 2000.

The value index of retail sales decreased 0.4 per cent in September 2001 compared with September 2000. September 2001 includes one trading day less than September 2000. The index excludes sales of motorized vehicles and petrol.

The final retail sales value index for September is 0.4 per cent higher than the preliminary index published October 23.
