Stable retail sales

The seasonally-adjusted volume index of retail sales increased by 0.2 per cent from July to August this year.

The seasonally-adjusted volume index of retail sales in non-specialised stores, which mainly consist of grocery stores, increased by 0.7 per cent from July to August this year. Retail sale of other goods in specialised stores, like building materials, electrical household appliances and furniture rose by 0.6 per cent, while retail sale of information and communication equipment had a decline of 4.4 per cent from July to August.

The non-adjusted volume index increased by 0.4 per cent from August 2008 to August 2009. In the same period, the volume index, excluding petrol stations, increased 1.5 per cent.

From August last year to August this year, the value index rose by 2.0 per cent, and the value index excluding petrol stations increased by 3.0 per cent.
