Wholesale and retail trade rose by 57 billion
The turnover of local kind-of-activity units in the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and household goods, increased by NOK 57 billion from 1999 to 2000. The turnover was NOK 839 billion in 2000.
The turnover in the structure statistics is excluding VAT.
Employment decreased above 1 300 people and the number of units decreased by about 650. Declined compared with 1999 was 0.4 and 1.0 per cent respectively. The total number of persons employed in 2000 was 347 000 people, and the total number of local kind-activity units was 66 000. The compensation of employees in the wholesale and retail sale amounted to NOK 84.9 billion. The compensation of employees grew by NOK 5.9 billion.
The enterprises in the wholesale and retail trade generated a turnover of NOK 865.3 billion in 2000. The structure statistics are published both at enterprise and local kind-of-activity units level. Statistics Norway has access to a more detailed accounting information at he enterprise level. The turnover at the local kind-of-activity units level is somewhat higher than the turnover at the enterprise level, because some local kind-of-activity units in the wholesale and retail trade belong to enterprises, which are not part of the wholesale and retail trade.
Turnover rose by 40 billion in agency and wholesale trade
The local kind-of-activity units in the agency and wholesale trade, exclusive motor vehicles and motorcycles, had a turnover of NOK 513.6 billion in 2000, an increase of NOK 40.5 billion. The number of local kind-of-activity units decreased by 500, and the employment declined by about 3 000 people. The compensation of employees amounted to NOK 40.6 billion, and rose by NOK 2.9 billion from 1999 to 2000.
179 000 employed in retail trade
Most 179 000 persons were employed in the retail trade, repair of personal and household goods in 2000. The employment rose by 1 200 people, and the number of local kind-of-activity units by 100 from 1999 to 2000. The compensation of employees rose by NOK 2.1 billion. The local kind-of-activity units in the retail trade had a turnover of NOK 220.6 billion in 2000, an increase of NOK 8.5 billion.
A good year for motor vehicles and petrol
Local kind-of-activity units, within sale and maintenance of motor vehicles and automotive fuel increased by NOK 8 billion in 2000 compared with 1999, an increase of 5.3 per cent. The number of local kind- of activity units show a small decline form 1999 to 2000, and the employment rose by almost 500. The compensation of employees rose by NOK 1 billion from 1999 to 2000.

Additional information
The statistics have figures for both local KAUs and enterprises, but preliminary figures are published only on enterprise level.
The figures for enterprises will deviate from the figures for local KAUs. The reason is that enterprises that are registered with principal activity in one industry may have local KAUs with activities in other industries.
