430 000 establishments in Norway
The number of establishments in Norway came to 429 910 by 1 January 2004. Most establishments were found within agriculture, other business activities, construction, and retail trade.
These figures are collected from the Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises (CRE) at Statistics Norway.
Most large establishments within health and social services
The largest number of establishments with 100 or more employees was recorded within health and social services, public administration, education and other business activities. Most establishments with no employees were recorded within agriculture and other business activities. Nine out of ten establishments within agriculture and fishing, and two thirds of the establishments within other business activities have no employees.
Regional differences in the number of establishments
The counties of Oslo, Akershus, Hordaland and Rogaland have the largest number of establishments, while the lowest number of establishments was recorded in Finnmark County. Oslo also has the largest number of establishments with 100 or more employees, accounting for almost one fourth of all establishments in this size group.
