Increase in activity but fewer enterprises

In 2011, there were 80 fewer foreign-controlled enterprises than in 2010. The number of employees, however, increased by almost 10 000, and turnover went from NOK 1 123 billion to over NOK 1 200 billion.

The total number of foreign-controlled enterprises was 6 034.Swedenas the largest ownership country with 1 752 enterprises, followed byDenmarkwith 774 andGreat Britainwith 637. The total number of employees was nearly 300 000; around 20 per cent of the total number of employees in the   business sector as a whole.

Oil and gas extraction, manufacturing and sales have lion’s share of the value added

In 2010, value added for the foreign-controlled enterprises totalled NOK 407 billion. Oil and gas extraction accounted for 48 per cent and manufacturing and sales accounted for 14 and 13 per cent respectively. This corresponds to about 25 per cent of the total value added inNorway.

USA, France and Sweden contribute most to the value added

Measured by value added, theUSAis the largest ownership country with a share of 27 per cent, followed byFrancewith 16 per cent andSwedenwith 11 per cent.
