Sales of petroleum products, March 1996:

Sharply lower sales of leaded petrol -zero in sight?

Sales of petroleum products totalled 2,733 million litres in the first three months of this year, preliminary figures show. This is 9.3 percent more than the same period last year. The greatest increase was seen in sales of asphalt, heavy fuel oil without bunker fuel and fuel oil. Sales of leaded petrol dropped sharply.

Sales of asphalt, heavy fuel oil without bunker fuel and heating kerosene increased by 26.6, 42.6 and 22.3 percent respectively in First Quarter 1996. Sales of heavy oil used as bunkers were, however, 5.9 percent lower than during the same period last year. Sales of leaded petrol plunged 72.6 percent, but apart from these two products, sales of all other types of petroleum products rose compared with FQ 1995.
