Definition | This variable shows if the person is living in a couple or not, type of couple, or if the person is a child in the family. Family status is given only for persons who belongs to a family nucleus, and only for members of private households. A family nucleus is defined as a family with at least two persons. |

Comments | Family status is mainly used in international census statistics. UNECE's and EU's recommendation for classification of families in population and housing census are therefore used. The limit for "adult children" is 25 years instead of 18 years usually used in Norwegian family statistics. |
