Monthly earnings up 3.5 per cent
Average monthly earnings for all employees, excluding overtime pay, were NOK 41 000 in the 3rd quarter of 2013. This was a year-on-year increase of NOK 1 400 or 3.5 per cent.

Full-time employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 42 500, which corresponds to a year-on-year increase of NOK 1 500 or 3.7 per cent from 2012. Monthly earnings for part-time employees were NOK 33 800, which was a rise of NOK 700 or 2.1 per cent.
The public and private sector
The wage statistics cover all employees in the Norwegian economy, in the public as well as the private sector. Monthly earnings in the public sector, which covers employees in central government, municipalities and health enterprises, rose by 2.3 per cent, to NOK 39 900 in 2013. Employees in municipalities had an increase in monthly earnings of 1.6 per cent, up to NOK 37 900 from 2012. For central government employees, including employees in health enterprises, monthly earnings rose by 3.6 per cent to NOK 43 100 in 2013.
Employees in the private sector had an increase in monthly earnings from NOK 39 800 to NOK 41 400 from 2012 to 2013. This corresponds to an increase of 4 per cent.
Monthly earnings for women and men
Average monthly earnings for men were NOK 43 700 in 2013, while corresponding earnings for women were NOK 37 500. This is a year-on-year increase of NOK 1 600 or 3.8 per cent for men and NOK 1 100 or 3 per cent for women.
Average monthly earnings for women as a percentage of average monthly earnings for men decreased from 86.5 per cent in the 3rd quarter of 2012 to 85.8 per cent in the 3rd quarter of 2013. In the public sector, there was a decrease from 88.9 to 88.5 per cent, while in the private sector the percentage increased from 84.1 per cent in 2012 to 84.2 per cent in 2013.
Monthly earnings by occupational group in the private sector
Average monthly earnings for senior officials and managers in the private sector were NOK 64 000, excluding overtime pay, in 2013.This was an increase of NOK 2 800 or 4.6 per cent from 2012.
Professionals and technicians and associate professionals working in the private sector had monthly earnings of NOK 55 600 and NOK 47 000 respectively in 2013. For professionals, the increase was NOK 1 900 or 3.5 per cent, while technicians and associate professionals had a rise of NOK 1 700 or 3.8 per cent from 2012.
Annual earnings up 3.9 per cent
Average annual earnings, which is a collocation of calculated annual earnings for all industries, amounted to NOK 489 200 in 2013. This was an increase of NOK 18 900 or 3.9 per cent from 2012.
About the statistical basisOpen and readClose
The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises with a total of 1 677 262 employees in the third quarter of 2013. The sample covers all industries except for agriculture, hunting and forestry. The data for these statistics have not been collected separately, but through previously published statistics for the individual industries. According to figures from the Norwegian Central Register of Enterprises and Establishments for the third quarter of 2013, the statistics cover about 2 390 000 employees.
