Employment increased mostly in Vest-Agder

The number of employed persons working in Vest-Agder increased by 2.1 per cent, or 1 500 employed people, from the fourth quarter of 2003 to the fourth quarter of 2004. Sogn og Fjordane had the largest decrease by 1.0 per cent, or 500 employed people. For the country as a whole the increase amounted to 0.6 per cent, or 14 000 employed persons.

All counties except Østfold, Oslo, Oppland, Sogn og Fjordane, Nordland og Troms had an increase in the number of employed people, from the fourth quarter of 2003 to the fourth quarter of 2004. Besides Vest-Agder the counties of Hedmark and Rogaland recorded the highest increase by 1.8 and 1.6 per cent respectively, according to new figures from the register-based employment statistic.

All counties with an increase in service activities

Hedmark had the highest increase in service activities by 2.9 per cent. In Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder, Nord-Trøndelag, Rogaland and Finnmark the increase were more than 2.0 per cent. The increase in service activities was basically in the domestic trade, hotels and restaurants and business activities. An increase in these industry divisions was recorded in all counties.

Vestfold, Vest-Agder, Rogaland and Nord-Trøndelag were the only counties with an increase in industrial activities. Vest-Agder and Rogaland had the highest increase, both with 1.3 per cent. While the increase in Vestfold and Vest-Agder mainly came within manufactural activities, while it in Rogaland and Nord-Trøndelag mainly came within construction.

Agricultural activities decreased in all counties.

The register-based employment statistics is published once a year. More detailed figures for health care personnel lare released on 17 June and for immigrants on 23 June. More tabels are available in the StatBank.
