Issues of bonds decreased

Issues of bonds decreased by 9 per cent in the 4. quarter 2001, compared with the same period in 2000.

Issues of bonds and commercial papers in Norway. 4. quarter 1998-4. quarter 2001

During 2001 the total amount of bond issues in Norway was NOK 78.9 billion. Domestic bond debt at 31 December 2001 was NOK 426.4 billion. This is an increase in outstanding debt of NOK 12.7 billion, or 3 per cent compared with the same period the year before. The total amount of issues decreased by NOK 7.9 billion, or 9 per cent from December last year. Central government issued NOK 12.4 billion worth of bonds during this year and commercial banks issued NOK 14.9 billion. Savings banks issued of NOK 19.2 billion worth of bonds. Private companies issued NOK 10.1 billion worth of bonds. These are the largest bond lenders with 72 per cent of the total amount of debt at 31 December 2001.

Issues of commercial papers increased by 23.4 per cent

Issues of commercial papers increased by NOK 62 billion or 23.4 per cent compared with the same period last year. During 2001 the total amount of commercial paper issues in Norway was NOK 327.2 billion. In comparison the issues of commercial papers at the same period last year were NOK 265.2 billion. Domestic debt at the end of December 2001 was NOK 119.6 billion compared with NOK 109.4 billion the same period 2000. Savings banks issued NOK 89.6 billion worth of bonds which is 27 per cent of the total amount of commercial paper issues. Central government issued NOK 64.5 billion, while commercial banks issued NOK 52.6 billion worth of commercial papers.

Issues abroad in NOK and foreign currency

Statistics on issues of bonds and commercial papers offered abroad in NOK and foreign currency are obtained from The Norwegian Central Bank. From the first quarter 2001 special ECP and USCP programs are included.

The statistics show that issues during the third quarter 2001 was NOK 475.6 billion. Mortgage companies are the largest borrowers in the foreign market, with NOK 358.8 billion, 75 per cent of the total issue volume.
