Increase in issues of bonds
Issues of bonds increased by 77.8 per cent in the 4th quarter 2002 compared with the corresponding period in 2001. State enterprises increased the most by NOK 16.2 billion, or 337 per cent.
During 2002 the total amount of bond issues in Norway was NOK 134.7 billion, an increase of NOK 59 billion, or 77.8 per cent from September last year. The Central government issued NOK 21.9 billion worth of bonds during this year, an increase of 76.2 per cent compared with 2001. The Central government bond issues represent 16.2 per cent of the total amount of issues. Commercial banks issued NOK 22.8 billion. Savings banks issued NOK 27 billion worth of bonds. State enterprises had the strongest increase in the 4t h quarter of NOK 21 billion, or 337 per cent.
Domestic bond debt at the end of 2002 was NOK 478.6 billion. This is an increase in outstanding debt of NOK 54 billion, or 12.7 per cent compared with 2001. The Central government debt by NOK 124.6 billion represents 26 per cent of the total outstanding debt.
Issues of commercial papers increased by 4 per cent
Issues of commercial papers increased by NOK 13 billion or 4 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. So far in 2002 the total amount of commercial paper issues in Norway was NOK 342.2 billion. The issues of commercial papers at the same time last year amounted to NOK 329.2 billion. Domestic debt at the end of 2002 was NOK 140.5 billion compared with NOK 121.5 billion in the corresponding period in 2001. Savings banks issued NOK 76 billion worth of bonds, 22.2 per cent of the total amount of commercial paper issues. The Central government issues came to NOK 83.5 billion, while commercial banks issued NOK 60.9 billion worth of commercial papers.
Issues abroad in NOK and foreign currency
Statistics on issues of bonds and commercial papers offered abroad in NOK and foreign currency are obtained from the Norwegian Central Bank. From the first quarter 2001 special ECP and USCP programmes are included. The figures from 2001 and 2002 are from September 2002 audited, due to market research executed by the Norwegian Central Bank.
The statistics show that issues during 2002 amounted to NOK 300.3 billion. Mortgage companies are the largest borrowers in the foreign market, with NOK 215 billion.
