Increase in issues of bonds and
During the second half of 2006, a moderate increase in issues of debt securities was registered in Norway due to a sharp increase in issues of bonds. The major part of Norwegian entities’ issues is however made abroad.
Until 2006, the statistics were published quarterly and annually in Today’s statistics, but as from 2007 they will be published monthly with additional information each half year and annually in Today’s statistics. From 2007, the statistics will also include information about the number of issues as a result of an adjustment to Norges Bank’s statistics ”Securities, issues of bonds and short-term securities”. The Norges Bank’s publication of these statistics will on the other hand be terminated from 2007. The figures have been revised and there has been a change of data sources. In December 2006, 99 bond issues valued at NOK 31.1 billion and 79 commercial papers valued at NOK 22.2 billion were registered in Norway. Norwegian entities issued 198 debt securities valued at NOK 46.3 billion abroad.
During the second half of 2006, 834 issues of debt securities valued at NOK 237.1 billion were registered in Norway. Compared with the second half of 2005, the number of issues was reduced by 9 per cent while the amount was increased by 7 per cent. The major part of the number of issues during second half of 2006 referred to issues of commercial bonds (425), while the major part of the amount referred to bonds (NOK 127 billion). On the other hand, only 35 per cent of the amount issued in second half of 2005 referred to bonds.
The share between groups of issuers has been stable. The largest number of issues (331) and amount (NOK 61.5 billion) of debt securities in second half of 2006 referred to commercial and savings banks. The number of issues made by the central government was few (17). Still, the central government represented the second largest amount (NOK 53.1 billion).
There has been an increase in Norwegian residents’ part of debt securities outside Norway. During the second half of 2006, Norwegian entities issued 1048 commercial papers valued at NOK 385.0 billion abroad. This represents an increase in the number of issues and credit amount of respectively 9 per cent and 30 per cent, compared to second half of 2005. The major part of these issues refers to commercial and savings banks and ‘other financial corporations’.
In 2006, 1803 issues of commercial papers valued at NOK 472.9 billion were registered in Norway. Outstanding bond and short-term securities amounted to respectively NOK 732.9 billion and NOK 106.6 billion. Norwegian entities have issued 2165 debt securities valued at NOK 815.3 billion abroad.
