More marriages – slightly fewer divorces
In 2012 atotal of 24 350 couples got married, an increase of 1 200 compared to 2011. 9 900 marriages were dissolved by divorce, that is 300 fewer than the previous year, and the lowest since 1999. Still this is at the same level as it has been for the last few years.

The number of marriages decreased both in 2010 and 2011, but then increased in 2012. With the exception of three individual years, the number of marriages has not been higher since the 1970s.
From 1989 onwards the number of divorces has been approximately 10 000 each year. 2004 and 2005 were the years with the highest number of divorces, about 11 000 each. The number of separations, 11 100, is continuing to decrease. 2012 was the lowest since 1987.
Approximately the same number of same sex couples married in 2012 as in 2011. 269 same sex couples got married in 2012. At the same time 57 marriages with same sex couples separated and 23 marriages with same sex couples divorced.
