Strong decrease in dwelling-starts

During the first two months of 2008, 4 501 dwellings were registered started. This is 1 578 fewer dwellings compared with January and February of 2007, and a 26.0 per cent decrease. February is the third month in a row with a lower number of dwelling-starts compared with the corresponding months the previous year.

Building started on a total of 1 664 500 square metres of utility floor space during the first two months this year - down 4.5 per cent from the corresponding period in 2007. Almost half of the floor space started, 809 200 square metres, was for industrial buildings. This is a 6.7 per cent increase. Started floor space for holiday houses, garages etc was 247 300 square metres, an increase of 8.4 per cent.

Conversion to a new property register

As of 5 November 2007 the municipalities will be transferred in groups from the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB) to the new property register, Matrikkelen. All municipalities will be transferred by the end of February 2009. In connection with the conversion there may be some delay in the registration of the municipalities that are being transferred. The Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority has an overview of transfer dates for each municipality .
