Majority of patients in substance abuse institutions are men
Of all in-patient treatment for substance abuse in 2008, men accounted for 70 per cent. The difference between men and women is less for the age groups below 24 years.
The number of beds has decreased by 2 per cent since last year. Out-patient consultations have increased by 30 per cent from 2007 to 2008. This growth can partly be explained by the fact that many consultations were previously registered within psychiatric health. Three per cent of all hospitalisations were involuntarily committed patients.
