Decrease in roundwood sales and prices
For the country as a whole, commercial roundwood removals decreased by 11 per cent in the first quarter of 2009 compared with the first quarter of 2008. The average timber price fell by NOK 82 to NOK 312.
A total of 1.9 million cubic metres of timber were cut for sale in the first quarter of 2009. The roundwood removals decreased in most counties.
The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry was NOK 606 million in the first quarter of 2009 - a decrease of 30 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter in 2008. According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained NOK 312 per cubic metre, a decrease of NOK 82 compared with the first quarter of 2008. The average price per cubic metre of saw logs decreased by NOK 128, while pulpwood decreased by NOK 12 from the first quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2009.
