Roundwood sales increased by 24 per cent
A total of 8.2 million cubic metres of industrial roundwood were cut for sale in 2010; an increase of more than 1.6 million cubic metres from 2009. The average price rose by 15 per cent.
Low timber price as a consequence of the international financial crisis was the main reason for the low logging activity in 2009. In 2010, the logging activity was back to the same level as in 2008.
The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the industry in 2010 totalled NOK 2.9 billion. According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained an average price of NOK 352 per cubic metre, compared with NOK 307 in 2009.
The county of Hedmark had the highest increase in annual removals, with almost 380 000 cubic metres. More than a quarter of the total removals for the country as a whole were carried out in this county.
Increase in the fourth quarter
Commercial roundwood removals totalled 2.1 million cubic metres in the 4th quarter of 2010. This was as an increase of 266 000 cubic metres compared with the corresponding quarter in the previous year.
