Price index of first-hand domestic sales, domestic and import markets, goes back to 1926. All sub-indices for the domestic market and imported goods start in 1953.
There were published no indices for the domestic market only before January 2001. However, Statistics Norway has released formerly unpublished series for the domestic market back to 1977. Sub-indices for the domestic market start in January 2000.
The index is published on the 10th, or the nearest working-day, of the month following the index period.
How are the price changes calculated?
Changes in the index are calculated by dividing the index value of the final period ("To month/ year") by the value in the starting period ("From month/ year"), subtracting one and multiplying by 100:
([Index, final] / [Index, starting] - 1) * 100
