The variables are distributed according to different environmental purposes.
Most of the economic activity covered by the statistics can be described as environmentally friendly in relative terms. This means that the green production will often be more environmentally friendly than the production it potentially replaces, but that it is not free of environmental impact.
In the period covered by the statistics, the environmental part of the economy grew more than the economy as a whole. Even so, environmental production still accounts for less than five percent of the total economy, which is also the case in the EU.
The industries that have contributed the most to the production of environmental goods and services in Norway are the building and construction sector, the water, sewage and waste disposal industry, as well as power generation. Furthermore, the figures show that the environmental production is mainly linked to saving resources, while about a quarter has environmental protection purposes.
Norway's green economy is somewhat smaller than in the other Nordic countries, but it is still slightly above the average for the EU.
