Government budget allocations for R&D is a document analysis of the annual national budgets.

Based on information from the latest R&D survey we estimate the proportion of the allocations on budget items in the national budget that will go to R&D activities. The analysis can be supplemented with information from ministries and other sources.

The analysis will provide information on government funded R&D at an earlier stage than the performer-based R&D statistics. At the same time there is more uncertainty in these data than in data from the R&D statistics, which measure the actual resources for R&D after the activity has been carried out. In line with international guidelines only budget chapters with allocations are included in the government budget analysis. Tax relief for R&D expenditures is excluded from the analysis.

In the event of changes in the information basis data can be revised up to three years back in time.
This table shows estimates for the distribution of the allocations for R&D by socioeconomic objectives. The classification follows Eurostat's Nomenclature for the analysis and comparison of scientific programmes and budgets (NABS 2007).
