Government budget allocations for R&D is a document analysis of the annual national budgets.

Based on information from the latest R&D survey we estimate the proportion of the allocations on budget items in the national budget that will go to R&D activities. The analysis can be supplemented with information from ministries and other sources.

The analysis will provide information on government funded R&D at an earlier stage than the performer-based R&D statistics. At the same time there is more uncertainty in these data than in data from the R&D statistics, which measure the actual resources for R&D after the activity has been carried out. In line with international guidelines only budget chapters with allocations are included in the government budget analysis. Tax relief for R&D expenditures is excluded from the analysis.

In the event of changes in the information basis data can be revised up to three years back in time.
