Record for Norwegian guest nights at hotels

There were over 2 million Norwegian guest nights at hotels, the highest number recorded in August by Statistics Norway for hotels. This represented an increase of 27 per cent from August last year.

There were 321 000 foreign guest nights at hotels, a 48 per cent increase from last year but still a quarter of the numbers before the pandemic.

Compared to August 2020, guest nights at hotels increased across all counties. Oslo and Viken increased the most.

Increase at camping sites and holiday dwellings

The number of guest nights at camping sites and All types of establishments with a rental unit (apartments, huts, etc.) with self-catering and limited service. Stays are short-term. and youth hostels was higher in August 2021 than in August 2019. There were 1.6 million guest nights at camping sites and 408 000 guest nights at holiday dwellings and youth hostels in August this year.

Compared to 2020, the increase was by 14 per cent and 41 per cent respectively.

In order to limit import infection, the Government introduced a quarantine hotel scheme on 5 November 2020. Guidelines have changed several times. For more information, see the governments’ webpage.

In accordance with Eurostat, quarantine hotels are not included in the accommodation statistics even when there is economic activity at the hotel. Quarantine guest nights cannot be assigned by purpose as holiday, occupation or course, conference. It was not possible to extract all quarantine guest nights and some stays at quarantine hotels are included in the statistics for August. Hotels that are exclusively quarantine hotels are not included in the statistics.
