More and more cars
The number of cars registered in Norway has increased every year for the last 10 years. By the end of 2006 2.4 million private cars and vans were registered, 80 000 more than in 2005.
The number of private cars exceeded 2 million during 2005. By the end of 2006 the total number of registered private cars was 2 083 106, 2.7 per cent more than the previous year. The stock of vans rose by as much as 9.3 per cent, from 302 956 vans in 2005 to 331 052 at the end of 2006.
More than 190 000 of the registered private cars and 14 000 of the vans are over 20 years old. Together these cars account for 8.5 per cent of all registered private cars and vans. 18.4 per cent of the cars are more than 15 years old.
Among private cars registered Volkswagen is on top at 13 per cent, while Toyota has the same position for vans at 18.8 per cent.
The number of registered light motor cycles rose by 9.9 per cent, heavy motor cycles went up 6.5 per cent and mopeds increased by 2.4 per cent compared with 2005.
There were 6.4 per cent fewer registered buses. The number of lorries went up 1 per cent, showing a shift towards more big lorries and fewer of those with the lowest carrying capacity.
