Growth in air transport

The number of passengers carried to and from Norwegian airports was 12.8 million in the 2nd quarter of 2011. This is an increase of 18.6 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2010. The increase must be viewed as a direct connection to the ash clouds from Iceland in April 2010.

The numbers for the 2nd quarter of 2010 were lower than normal because many flights were cancelled due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland in April last year.

Fewer domestic passengers at Rygge

Rygge airport in Moss had 33 000 fewer domestic passengers in the 2nd quarter of 2011 compared to the 2nd quarter of 2010. Torp airport registered an increase of 10 000 domestic passengers, but a drop of 26 000 in the number of passengers on international flights. This is the opposite tendency shown at Rygge airport, which had 130 000 more international passengers than the same quarter in 2010.

Stable growth in goods transport

The transport of goods nationally and internationally is stable in Norway. Eighty per cent is transported abroad and 20 per cent domestically. A total of 18 000 tonnes of goods were transported to and from Norway during the 2nd quarter of 2011, of which 15 600 was from Oslo airport Gardermoen. This represented 86.5 per cent of the total goods transported both nationally and internationally.

Growth in capacity

There were 192 000 aircraft movements registered at Norwegian airports in the 2nd quarter of 2011; an increase of 8.7 per cent compared to the 2nd quarter of 2010. The corresponding number of seats was 20 million.

Similar capacity between Oslo-Trondheim and Oslo-Bergen

Available capacity between Oslo and Trondheim was 33 per cent; almost similar to Oslo and Bergen, which was 32 per cent. The first route had 2 073 departures and 220 000 passengers, while the second had 2 166 departures with 216 000 passengers.
